Why Is Himalayan Salt Lick Important For Cattle?
Himalayan Salt licks are large blocks made with pure Himalayan rock salt mined from the Khewra salt mines. Commonly available licks are prepared by compressing salts to give them the shape of solid chunks or blocks. The biggest benefit of this practice is to ensure cattle’s health by giving them the satisfaction of licking. Unlike other types of salts, Himalayan Salt contains 84 minerals and trace elements to give functional and structural support to animals.
The presence of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc in Himalayan Salt is well-reported in scientific studies. These salt licks provide a balanced amount of these minerals to your grazing animals, including herds. The natural composition of these Himalayan salt-compressed blocks makes them an excellent alternative to traditional salt licks. It offers a more balanced and complete mineral supply with only a lick.
Benefits of Using Himalayan Salt Lick For Cattle
For better immunity and milk production, cattle require salt. Giving salt to cattle is not difficult, but ensuring that they consume it in moderation is necessary. You can add salt to their drinking water directly. By hanging a Himalayan Salt lick on cattle farms, they can get their desired amount of salt when required. Some other benefits include:
1. Rich in Essential Minerals
Essential minerals are those minerals that the body usually can’t make, but they are required for some vital functions. So, the only possibility to stay healthy is by taking them externally. Luckily, the salt mined in the Khewra salt mines of Pakistan has 84 essential minerals and other trace elements. Contrastingly, regular salt mainly contains sodium chloride. Thus, by allowing cattle to consume these blocks, one can give them the strength to cope with health challenges by getting access to several vital minerals. This rich mineral diversity ensures that cattle consuming Himalayan salt blocks receive a more comprehensive nutrition boost, supporting their overall health and productivity.
2.Improves Hydration and Electrolyte Balance
When it comes to taking care of cattle, especially in summer, salt licks play a key role in maintaining electrolyte balance. During the period of lactation, cattle require an adequate amount of salt to keep the electrolytes balanced and prevent dehydration. By making them accessible to the Himalayan salt licks, these cattle can replenish sodium and other minerals lost through sweating and urination. This way, they can stay active by improving digestion and maintaining stamina. It prepares cattle for managing heat stress and improves growth rates and milk yield.
3. Supports Healthy Digestion and Metabolism
The trace minerals in Himalayan salt blocks enhance the absorption of nutrients and activation of enzymes. The presence of minerals supports digestion by enhancing enzyme function and stimulating saliva production. Ultimately, they give the digestive system the power to effectively break down the fibrous feed like grass and hay. Like other animals, the secrets of health also hide in the gut health of cattle. This simply means the minerals in the Himalayan salt block facilitate cattle in the better utilization of food. It translates into faster gain in body weight and other health benefits.
4. Natural & Chemical-Free
Cattle can get their daily dose of sodium chloride by consuming commercially processed salt licks. But most of them usually have additives and anti-caking agents. On the other side of the picture, there is a great alternative, which is Himalayan Pink Salt licks. These licks are all natural and unprocessed. They have all nature’s goodness locked inside them. Above all, they are additives and chemical-free. This natural salt ensures your cattle only utilize quality salt without harmful substances.
5. Enhances Immune Function and Reproductive Health
Minerals like zinc, copper, and selenium found in pink salt licks are crucial for maintaining a strong immune system in cattle. Fighting against infection and healing wounds or cuts are some of the miracles of salt licks. It boosts herd immunity and prevents the outbreak of diseases in herds. Salt consumption and better reproductive health have also been linked in so many studies.
